The Chinese Imperial Post which was scheduled to start on Jan 1, 1897, but later changed to Jan 1 of the Lunar Calendar, which is Feb 2 of the solar calender. Since the Shanghai Customs PO had accepted advance orders of the foreign collectors and dealers, led to the "pre-first day" CTO of those stamps. The cds. dated Jan 2, 1897 is known only on the 6 values of Dowager surch issues, that is 1c, 2c, 4c, 5c, 8c and 30c. Mizuhara "Huayou Jijin II" vol. 7, p.8.
