bearing Peking C.I.P. Postage Paid chop and Peking I.G. of Customs cds. in blue. This Postage Paid chop was applied to temporarily replaced the stamps in "Candarin" unit, as the new postage rate by "Silver Dollar" unit will take effect on and after Jan 1, 1897, but the new unit stamps have not been issued yet. The Postage Paid chop seemed to be first used on Dec 11, 1896, when the overland route was opened annually. Earliest known date are Dec 26 (Tientsin) and Dec28 (Peking). This cover sent on Apr 2, 1897, was the latest used example of this chop known to date. Mizuhara "Huayou Jijin II" vol. 7, p.3.

Postage Paid chop and Peking I.G. of Customs cds. in blue, mixed franking with German Post in China 10Pf pair, tied by Shanghai German PO cds., on reverse showing Customs Shanghai cds. This is the only known cover of German combination usage. Mizuhara "Huayou Jijin II" vol. 7 p.4.
bearing Tientsin type II unframmed "POSTAGE PAID" chop and Customs Tientsin cds. in blue. This Postage Paid chop was applied during Dec 26, 1896 - Feb 20, 1897. Mizuhara "Huayou Jijin II" vol. 7, p.6.
canceled by Kiukiang Pakua mark (1st C.I.P. postmark), bearing at lower left Customs Kiukiang cds. in red, sent to Shanghai with Customs Shanghai arrival cds. in brown on reverse. Universally the 1st day of C.I.P. was believed as Jan 2, 1897, but was actually Feb 2 corrected by Mr. Mizuhara. This is the invaluable postal history item of C.I.P. Ex. On reverse showing Customs Shanghai cds. and Belgium arrival mark. The blue Peking "REGISTERED" cachet was used in Peking since 1894 Jul, this one is the latest usage on cover.
