Farmers Bank of China:

ND (ca. 1930s) TYPC Print 5 Chiao Front Proof. Choice UNC. PMG 64. This note is illustrated on page 116 of Lin Ching-Chih’s reference work Central Bank Customs Gold Units – American Bank Note Company Issues, and originates from his original collection. It is an unissued trial proof, never mass-produced, and the only recorded example. On November 14, 1934, the Farmers Banks of Honan, Hupeh, Anhwei and Kiangsi were reorganized into the Farmers Bank of China, whose notes were printed by the Ta Yeh Company. After joining the Central Bank system in December 1935, notes of $1 and above were reassigned to the British firm De La Rue for production; by 1936, the 50 Cents denomination was also entrusted to De La Rue, resulting in the Ta Yeh version being discontinued before official issuance. This piece represents a surviving trial proof from this transitional period, offering important insight into the monetary reforms and the transfer of banknote printing authority in Republican China. Accompanied by a copy of Lin Ching-Chih’s aforementioned publication, signed by the author.
