bronze medal showing the Namdaemun Gate on obverse and the yin-yang emblem with “United States of America” on reverse. With original blue and white ribbon.
Featuring the Arms of the Shanghai Municipal Council, with Chinese junk, camel crest, and motto “Omnia Juncta In Uno” within scroll beneath. Maker’s mark “HOBSON & SONS, LONDON” impressed on reverse, with shank intact. Attractive patina and light age wear. Very Fine.
bronze circular medal, obv. Chinese junk sailing left with “CHINA SERVICE” legend; rev. American eagle perched on an anchor with “UNITED STATES NAVY” and “FOR SERVICE” inscriptions. Suspended from yellow ribbon with crimson edge stripes, complete with original pin-back brooch. Moderate oxidation and age patina with traces of wear. Very Fine.
each made from natural bamboo with visible nodes and patina from age and use, one with a dragon-head bowl carved from bamboo root and the other fitted with a metal bowl, both showing traditional hand craftsmanship, natural wear and darkened use marks, overall well preserved and representative of Chinese smoking implements from the late 19th to early 20th century.
