including Nationalist military amphibious landing exercises on Formosa, scenes around Quemoy, artillery and machine-gun training, wartime civilians and refugees, together with images relating to the China seat at the United Nations, daily life, and construction works, several with English press captions, an interesting group for the study of postwar Taiwan Strait and Cold War-era Chinese visual history.
Several photographs bear English press captions and international news agency markings, reflecting the Cold War era and the historical context of the Republic of China. Condition generally fine. Please inspect.
including a portrait of a young boy in military uniform, a 1927 news agency caption slip mentioning General Feng Yuxiang and Wu Pei-fu, and two U.S. Army Signal Corps press photographs dated 1944 depicting General Wedemeyer, General Frank Dorn and Chinese troops during the Sino-Japanese War period, with press censorship markings and typed captions on reverse, mixed condition, F-VF.
including aircraft with the famous “shark mouth” nose art, pilots, military scenes, and General Claire L. Chennault. The Flying Tigers, officially the American Volunteer Group (AVG), were formed in 1941 to assist China during the Second Sino-Japanese War and became one of the most iconic air units of the Second World War. A historically interesting group illustrating Sino-American wartime cooperation and aviation history.
including Baron Gonsuke Hayashi arriving on the S.S. Majestic for the funeral of the Japanese Emperor, Dr. Mei Tao-ming and Roy Chapman Andrews, polo and aviation subjects, and other documentary scenes, mostly 1920s to 1930s, several with original typed news captions, agency stamps and editorial markings on reverse, mixed condition, F-VF.
