Historic commercial correspondence dated June 9, 1866, from Remi de Montigny, referencing his tariff dated May 3 and detailing product distribution. Features the scarce red postmark PAQ.ANG.V.SUEZ – 8 JUIL 66 – AMB. MARS.2 (Raymond Salles type 1.880), used for English mail packets via the Suez route, processed aboard the Marseille ambulant postal service no. 2. A postal history item of significant interest, especially as the use of this marking ceased in December 1871 due to the disruption of British maritime routes following the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War.
f.w. South Australia Victoria 2d, with Hong Kong transit cds. on reverse. A clear arrival cds. of Canton indexed A dated "5 Sp 5" is shown on address side. According to Webb, the figure "0" in the year was omitted in 1905 and 1906 for a short period. The earliest date known recorded by Webb was "25 September 5". Cancellations with index letter A are rarer.
