1897年一組5件慈壽小字4方連，均蓋銷1月2日上海海關日戳，另有單枚票5種，分別蓋銷1月4日到31日日戳，均早於大清郵政正式成立的2月2日。大清國家郵政局原定於1897年1月1日成立，後來因故改成農曆一月初一，即西曆2月2日成立。上海海關郵政局由於提前接受了集郵愛好者和郵商的預定，故提前於1月2日出售郵票並蓋銷日戳，這組慈壽小字加蓋票一共有6種面值蓋銷，分別有1、2、4、5、8和30分。這組票缺一枚30分。水原明窗《華郵集錦》第2部第7冊第8頁實物。

The Chinese Imperial Post which was scheduled to start on Jan 1, 1897, but later changed to Jan 1 of the Lunar Calendar, which is Feb 2 of the solar calender. Since the Shanghai Customs PO had accepted advance orders of the foreign collectors and dealers, led to the "pre-first day" CTO of those stamps. The cds. dated Jan 2, 1897 is known only on the 6 values of Dowager surch issues, that is 1c, 2c, 4c, 5c, 8c and 30c. Mizuhara "Huayou Jijin II" vol. 7, p.8.
