1897年1月2日日本橫濱經上海寄北京混貼西式封，貼日本新小判5錢雙連，銷橫濱日戳，背面貼海關銀計價的慈壽初版1分銀票3連，用以支付上海到北京的冬季陸路郵資，銷上海海關日戳，旁蓋上海日本客郵局中轉戳和北京海關總署到達戳。大清郵政成立，改以洋銀計價郵資取代海關銀計價郵資，此轉型時期因爲新單位郵票未印就，北京和天津方面使用臨時的郵資已付戳記，在上海則沿用海關銀單位郵票，十分珍罕。水原明窗《華郵集錦》第2部第7冊第7頁實物。

Japan New Koban 5s pair, tied by Yokohama cds., on reverse with Dowager 1st Print 1Cd. strip of 3, tied by Customs Shanghai (Jan 14) cds., along with Shanghai IJPO transit and Peking I.G. of Customs arrival cds. The "Silver Dollar" Unit postage was effective on Jan 1, 1897, in this interim period, Peking and Tientsin applying the temporary POSTAGE PAID chops, while Shanghai still using the stamps in "Candarin" unit. The 3Cd. postage on this cover was used to paid the winter overland mail service to Peking. Mizuhara "Huayou Jijin II" vol. 7 p.7.
